Energy Saving Tips For Homeowners

Simple daily routines can save you thousands of dollars in the future!

Heating & Cooling

Reduce your home heating costs by:

  • Have your heating/cooling system checked by a professional annually, or shortly before the major heating/cooling season.
  • During the Summer and Winter seasons make sure you replace your filter often.
  • Ceiling fans can help spread warm and cool air around. Setting ceiling fans at slow speeds help to distribute air evenly.
  • Make sure furniture, carpet or curtains aren’t blocking vent registers and air ducts.
  • Installing a setback or programmable thermostat could save you as much as 20% on your heating/cooling costs. This way your thermostat will adjust the temperature for you when your not home to help save money and energy.

Water

How would I pump water out of my basement if the power goes out?

  • By installing a water powered sump pump instead of the average sump pump. A WPSP is powered by pressure from your city’s water supply. As water flows thru it a vacuum motion is created acting like a siphon.

Energy

Did you know?

  • Using the sprayer instead of the faucet, while washing dishes, is a great way to save water.
  • Installing low-flow faucets and showerheads is a great way to conserve water.
  • Always fix leaky toilets. If a toilet is leaky is could waste 10,000 gallons of water per year.
  • Use a broom to clean walkways instead of a hose.
  • Most laptops use less energy than a desktop computer.
  • Make sure your computer monitor is turned off. They use twice as much energy as the tower.
  • Even when electrics (like video game consoles) are in “standby” mode they still leak energy.
